BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport rallied to briefly take the lead, but Grafton answered quickly and pulled away for an 11-7 victory Friday at Bridgeport High School.
Grafton came out swinging, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning and the Bearcats added three more runs in the second to build a 5-1 advantage.
The Lady Indians responded in a big way in the bottom of the second, erupting for five runs on six hits to seize a 6-5 lead. Reese Van Zant delivered one of the key hits during the rally, driving in a run with a double.
Addison Mike took the loss for Bridgeport after working 6 1/3 innings against a potent Grafton lineup that finished with 17 hits.
Bridgeport totaled 13 hits in the contest, with Gracia Knight, Mia Gibson, Mahaylee Messenger, Amayah Clark, and Van Zant each recording two. Knight, Gibson, and Van Zant each drove in a run, while Clark added two stolen bases.
Bridgeport will look to bounce back Monday when it travels to Doddridge County.
