ELKINS, W.Va. — Despite outhitting Elkins, Bridgeport couldn't overcome a pivotal fifth inning and fell 9-5 to the Tigers on Monday.
Elkins opened the scoring in the second inning when Elkins doubled home a run and followed with an RBI single.
Bridgeport answered in the third, tying the game at 2-2 after Mia Gibson tripled to center field and helped spark the rally.
The game remained tight until the bottom of the fifth, when Elkins broke it open with five runs on three hits. A key error in the inning brought home two runs as the Tigers surged ahead 7-2.
Bridgeport continued to battle at the plate, finishing with nine hits. Avery Humble, Peyton Kelley, and Reese Van Zant each collected two hits, while Gibson and Amayah Clark drove in two runs apiece.
Addison Mike took the loss for the Lady Indians, striking out seven over six innings while allowing nine runs, five earned.
Bridgeport will face the loser of Tuesday's Elkins-Keyser match up in an elimination game on Wednesday.
