BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Despite building a four-run lead, Bridgeport was unable to hold off a late rally as Williamstown edged the Lady Indians 9-8 on Wednesday at Bridgeport High School.
Bridgeport struck first in the second inning when Peyton Kelley delivered a two-run single to give the Lady Indians an early advantage. The lead grew in the third inning as Avery Humble connected on a solo home run to left field, helping Bridgeport maintain control through the middle innings.
However, the game turned in the sixth inning when Williamstown erupted for five runs on five hits to take a 9-7 lead.
Offensively, Bridgeport was led by Olivia Corder and Humble, who each collected two hits. Gracia Knight, Corder, Reese Van Zant, and Humble each drove in a run. The Lady Indians also showed patience at the plate with nine walks, while Breanna Laxton and Van Zant each drew two.
Bridgeport was aggressive on the base paths, stealing eight bases in the contest, with Corder and Amayah Clark each swiping multiple bags. The Lady Indians also turned a double play defensively.
Bridgeport will look to bounce back on Friday when it travels to John Marshall.
