BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport erupted early and never let up, rolling to a 15-0 victory over Philip Barbour on Tuesday at Bridgeport High School.
The Lady Indians broke the game open with a massive eight-run second inning, taking full advantage of their patience at the plate. Addison Mike, Peyton Kelley, Reese Van Zant, and Gracia Knight each drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs, while Humble delivered a two-run double. Amayah Clark added another RBI via walk, and Breanna Laxton was hit by a pitch to bring home another run in the decisive frame.
Bridgeport set the tone in the first inning, scoring five runs without the benefit of a hit. Avery Humble, Laxton, and Olivia Corder each drew walks, Mike was hit by a pitch, and Kelley added an RBI on a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Indians an early cushion.
The offense kept rolling in the third inning, when Knight singled to extend the lead to 14-0 and put the game firmly out of reach.
Mike earned the win in the circle, tossing three innings of one-hit ball while striking out three and issuing no walks.
Bridgeport's disciplined approach at the plate was evident throughout, as the Lady Indians drew 18 walks in the game. Van Zant led the way with four walks, while Kelley and Humble each drove in two runs. Knight and Humble also contributed hits in the victory.
Bridgeport will look to keep its momentum going when it hosts Williamstown on Wednesday.
