SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Bridgeport wasted no time taking control and never looked back, rolling to a 12-2 victory over South Charleston on Friday at South Charleston High School.
The Lady Indians set the tone early, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Amayah Clark delivered an RBI single down the left field line, and Mike followed with a run-scoring groundout to give Bridgeport a quick 2-0 advantage.
Bridgeport continued to build its lead in the second inning. Reese Van Zant brought home a run with a groundout, and Humble added an RBI single to extend the margin to 4-0.
The game broke open in the third inning when the Lady Indians plated five runs on four hits. Van Zant highlighted the rally with a two-run double, while Humble matched her with a two-run double of her own. Mahaylee Messenger capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead firmly in Bridgeport's favor.
Addison Mike earned the win in the circle, delivering a strong outing for the Lady Indians. The right-hander allowed four hits and two runs, only one of which was earned, over five innings. She struck out five and did not issue a walk.
Bridgeport finished with 10 hits in the contest. Clark, Breanna Laxton, and Avery Humble each recorded two hits, while Van Zant and Humble drove in three runs apiece. Messenger also contributed at the plate with two walks as the Lady Indians showed patience, drawing five free passes overall.
Bridgeport will look to continue its strong play on Monday when it travels to Lewis County.
