Softball Fall to Robert C. Byrd After Fourth-Inning Rally

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A five-run fourth inning by Robert C. Byrd proved to be the difference as Bridgeport dropped a 7-4 decision Tuesday.

Bridgeport came out strong, taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Avery Humble drove in a run with an infield single, and Mike added another on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles answered in the third inning, taking advantage of a Bridgeport error to tie the game at 2-2.

The Lady Indians regained the lead in the fourth when Reese Van Zant delivered a two-run double to make it 4-2.

However, Robert C. Byrd responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, erupting for five runs on four hits to take control.

Addison Mike took the loss for Bridgeport, pitching a complete game and allowing seven runs, five of them earned, on eight hits while striking out six.

Van Zant led the Lady Indians offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Humble also added two hits.

Bridgeport will look to bounce back Wednesday when it travels to North Marion.
