BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport battled early but could not keep pace with Elkins, falling 17-5 on Monday at Bridgeport High School.
Elkins came out swinging in the top of the first inning, when a double drove in three runs followed by an RBI single to make it 4-0.
Bridgeport answered in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to one. Clark delivered an RBI single, and Humble followed with a two-run home run to left field to bring the Lady Indians within 4-3.
Elkins extended the lead in the second inning with the help of a double and a Bridgeport error, then broke the game open in the fourth by scoring eight runs. The Tigers capitalized on timely hits and several Bridgeport miscues to put the game out of reach.
Mike took the loss for Bridgeport after allowing 14 runs, nine earned, over 3 1/3 innings. Van Zant also worked in relief for the Lady Indians.
Bridgeport collected 10 hits in the loss, with Humble leading the offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Knight, Van Zant, and Humble each recorded two hits.
Bridgeport will try to bounce back Tuesday when it travels to Robert C. Byrd.
