BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — A seven-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as Bridgeport fell 13-3 to Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday at Bridgeport High School.
Buckhannon-Upshur got on the board early in the first inning with an RBI single, then added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Bryant to take a 2-0 lead.
Bridgeport answered in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 2-2. Reese Van Zant drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Amayah Clark followed with an RBI single to even the score.
The Lady Buccaneers responded quickly in the third inning, reclaiming the lead with a three-run frame.
Buckhannon-Upshur extended its lead in the fourth on a solo home run before breaking the game open in the fifth. The Lady Buccaneers scored seven runs on five hits in the inning.
Addison Mike took the loss for Bridgeport after allowing 11 runs, seven earned, over 4 1/3 innings. Van Zant also saw time in the circle in relief.
Clark led the Lady Indians offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Gracia Knight added two walks as part of a patient approach that resulted in six free passes.
Bridgeport will look to rebound quickly as it hosts East Fairmont on Tuesday.
