KINGWOOD, W.Va. — The Bridgeport Lady Indians were unable to hold early momentum Monday, falling 7-2 to the Preston Knights at Preston High School.

Bridgeport struck first in the opening inning when Mahaylee Messenger drove in a run on a groundout to give the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead. Preston answered in the bottom of the second, as Hamrick delivered a two-run double to put the Knights in front, 2-1.

The Lady Indians evened the score in the third inning when Amayah Clark singled to the left side of the infield, bringing home a run to tie the game at 2-2. However, Preston regained control in the fourth inning when Hamrick launched a solo home run to left field, giving the Knights a 3-2 advantage they would not relinquish.

Preston added to its lead over the final innings, fueled by a strong performance in the circle from Sanders. The right-hander earned the win, allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out 12 and walking four. Sanders capped the outing with an immaculate seventh inning, striking out the side on nine pitches.

Bridgeport's Addison Mike took the loss after pitching six innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Offensively, Messenger and Clark each drove in a run for Bridgeport, with Clark leading the team with two hits in three at-bats. The Lady Indians also turned a double play defensively.

Bridgeport will look to bounce back Thursday when it travels to face North Marion.
