Baseball Pulls Away Late to Defeat University, 11-2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Bridgeport broke open a close game with a six-run seventh inning and rolled to an 11-2 victory over University on Tuesday.

The Indians struck first in the opening inning when Kasen Baun launched a two-run home run to left field.

University answered quickly, tying the game in the bottom half of the inning on a bases-loaded walk.

Bridgeport regained control in the second. Aiden Dunn delivered a two-run single to break the tie, and Owen Sondericker followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 5-2.

The game remained there until the seventh, when the Indians put it away with an offensive explosion. Blake Butcher started the rally with a two-run single, a dropped third strike brought home another run, Mason Bowen added a two-run double, and Brady Elliott capped the inning with an RBI single.

Baun earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits over four innings while striking out six. Butcher came on in relief to record the save.

Bridgeport pounded out 13 hits in the victory. Guy Avolio and Baun each collected two hits, while Butcher, Dunn, Baun, and Bowen all drove in two runs apiece.

The Indians also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, and Luke Rohrig added two stolen bases.

Bridgeport returns to action Thursday when it travels to Wheeling Park.
