MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A dominant pitching performance from Owen Sondericker and timely hitting from Anthony Julian lifted Bridgeport to a 2-0 victory over Morgantown on Wednesday.
Both teams were locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel through five innings before the Indians finally broke through in the sixth. Julian delivered the decisive blow with a two-run double that gave Bridgeport all the offense it would need.
Sondericker was outstanding on the mound, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout. The right-hander struck out six and walked four while recording all 21 outs to earn the win.
Bridgeport collected nine hits in the game, with Julian leading the way offensively from the seventh spot in the lineup. He finished 2-for-3 with both RBIs.
Sondericker also contributed at the plate, joining Julian, Luke Rohrig, and Guy Avolio with two hits each.
The Indians backed their pitching staff with solid defense, turning a double play in the shutout victory.
.Bridgeport returns home Thursday to face Lincoln.
