BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Avolio delivered a big night at the plate Monday, driving in five runs to lead Bridgeport to a 12-2 victory over Parkersburg South.
Bridgeport took control in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs. Owen Sondericker tied the game with an RBI single, Guy Avolio added a run on a fielder's choice, and Cole Arnett followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
The Indians extended their lead in the second inning. Kasen Baun drew a bases-loaded walk, and Avolio came through with a two-run double to push the advantage to 6-1.
Avolio added to his big night with another run-scoring hit later in the game, finishing with five RBIs on two hits.
Aiden Dunn earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two. Baun started the game, working three innings and allowing two runs.
Bridgeport's offense stayed consistent throughout, with Jackson McNally leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. The Indians also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks.
Defensively, Bridgeport turned two double plays in a clean overall performance.
Bridgeport returns to action Tuesday on the road against Robert C. Byrd with a chance for head coach Robert Shields to win his 1000th career game.
