The Bridgeport High School cross country teams had a strong start to the season as the girls team finished fourth in the Class AAA/AAAA division, and the boys placed fifth at the XC Festival Under the Lights at Cabell Midland High School.

The BHS girls were actually the top AAA team in the standings, finishing with a score of 134 which trailed on AAAA schools Morgantown (68), Cabell Midland (82) and Hurricane (87).

Leading the way for the girls was freshman
Aria Selario, who placed fourth overall with a time of 19:24.31. Herbert Hoover's Maysen Fletcher took first place, setting a course record in the process with a time of 17:52.19.

Also for the BHSÂ girls,
Mikaela DeMoss was 21sth with a time of 20:36.28,
Ashley McBrayer was 27th at 20:54.62,
Isla Tobrey was 40th at 21:39.24, Bethsayed Dankiewicz was 44th at 22:06.10 and
Chloe Witt was 92nd at 25:13.94.

On the boys side, the Indians were fifth with 208 points. Elkins, the defending state champions, took first place with 66 points.

The Tigers' Trevor George finished first with a time of 15:48.20.

Troy Zorick was the top finisher for the Indians, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:54.13 which was good for eighth overall.

Parker Muncy ran a 21st-place time of 17:30.05.
Graham Northey finished 42nd at 18:27.89, edging his brother,
William Northey, who was 44th at 18:31.86.
