Bridgeport's girls' cross country team captured the Class AAA Region II championship at Preston High School this afternoon to earn a trip to the state championship meet.

The boys finished second at the same meet. The runner-up finish means the boys have also qualified as a team for the state meet.

The girls for the Indians finished with a score of 32 as five of their runners finished in the top 10. Elkins finished second with 40 points, while Keyser was third with 76.

Aria Selario was the highest finisher for BHS as she came in second overall. Selario posted a time of 19 minutes, 4.5 seconds.

Mikaela DeMoss finished fifth overall for the Tribe. DeMoss finished with a time of 20 minutes, 42.7 seconds.

Bridgeport had three more finishers in the next five across the finish line. The group of Bethsayed Dankiewicz (20:42.7., 6th),
Isla Tobrey (21:24.1, 9th) and
Ashley McBrayer (21:24.9, 10th) rounded on the group that created the final score for the Tribe.

Bridgeport totaled 61 points for the second-place finish in boys action. Elkins rolled to the regional crown with 29 points, while Keyser was third with 78 points.

Troy Zorick was the top finisher for the Indians as he came on third overall. Zorick posted a time of 16 minutes, 50.3 seconds.

Two more runners finished in the top 10 for the Tribe. William Norther was ninth with a time of 17 minutes, 21.7 seconds, while
Parker Muncy finished in the tenth spot with a time of 17 minutes, 31.6 seconds.

The final two athletes that added to the BHS score were
Graham Northey and
Cole Phillips. G. Northey was 14th (18:16.9) and Phillips was 25th (19:22.9)

The state championship meet is set for Saturday, Nov. 1 at Cabell Midland High School in Ona.
