Bridgeport High School standout distance runner
Quentin Collier finalized his plans for competing at the next level, signing his national letter of intent with Glenville State University on Monday.
Â
The signing ceremony took place in front of a crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches at BHS.
Â
Collier will compete in both cross county and track when he joins the Pioneers, two sports he has been successful in during his time at Bridgeport.
Â
"I know a lot of athletes on the team with track and cross so I know I will fit in very well because of the team atmosphere," Collier said. "I feel very good about it."
Â
Not only does he already know athletes at Glenville State, he will also be going there with a couple of fellow BHS teammates. Donovan Williams and
Alex Moses, who are both on the BHS track, are going to play football for the Pioneers.
Â
"I'm definitely excited to be going with them," Collier said. "I love those guys and I know they will help out any team."
Â
While a consistent runner for the Indians in the fall during cross country season, Collier has really showed his versatility on the track in the spring where he can run any of the distance events and has been a valuable asset for the relay teams.
Â
Whenever the BHS coaches needed someone to fill in for a certain event, they knew they could count on Collier.
Â
"I feel that makes me essential to a team, being available in any means necessary" said Collier, who plans on majoring in exercise science while at Glenville State. "I'm pumped to do both (cross country and track).
Â
Monday's signing also marked the start of what figures to be an eventful week for Collier. On Thursday he and the rest of the BHS Class of 2025 will graduate and then Friday and Saturday, he will cap his athletic career with another appearance at the state track and field meet.
Â
Collier will be part of both the 4x400 and 4x800 teams for the Indians for the second year in a row. Last year, the 4x400 team finished 14th and the 4x800 team came in eighth place.
Â
"It's a surreal moment," Collier said. "This last week, it's a lot of pressure but I'm happy to be here and I'm ready to help the 400 and 800 teams the best I can."
