BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport used a big first inning and another strong pitching performance to earn a 7-2 victory over Lincoln on Thursday.
Lincoln struck first on a sacrifice fly in the opening inning, but the Indians answered immediately with four runs in the bottom half.
Jackson McNally tied the game with an RBI double before Owen Sondericker launched a two-run homer to left field to put Bridgeport in front. Later in the inning, another run scored on a fielder's choice to make it 4-1.
The Indians added to the lead in the third inning when Brooks Vass tripled home a run, Aiden Dunn followed with an RBI single, and Luke Rohrig added another run-scoring hit.
Guy Avolio earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game while allowing just four hits and two unearned runs. He struck out seven and walked two.
Bridgeport collected 10 hits in the win, led by leadoff hitter Rohrig, who went 3-for-4 and added two stolen bases. Sondericker and Vass each drove in two runs.
The Indians were aggressive on the bases all night, stealing five bags, and also turned a double play defensively.
