Baseball Falls to Robert C. Byrd After Fifth-Inning Surge

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — A big fifth inning by Robert C. Byrd proved to be the difference Wednesday, as Bridgeport dropped an 8-4 decision.

The Eagles wasted little time getting on the board, as Cooper Floyd led off the game with a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning.

Bridgeport answered in the second, taking advantage of a Robert C. Byrd error to even the score at 1-1. The Indians then moved in front in the fourth inning when Cole Arnett delivered an RBI single to give Bridgeport a 2-1 lead.

However, the momentum shifted in the fifth inning as Robert C. Byrd regained control. Shaffer sparked the rally with a home run to left, and the Eagles capitalized on their patience at the plate with multiple walks. Lowther, Frazier, and Floyd each contributed to the inning, helping push across several runs to take the lead for good.

Carvelli earned the win for Robert C. Byrd, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out nine and walking five.

Kasen Baun took the loss for Bridgeport, working 4 1/3 innings. He struck out eight but struggled with control, issuing seven walks and allowing five runs.

Brooks Vass led the Indians at the plate, going 2-for-4, while Bridgeport also turned a double play defensively.

Bridgeport will look to bounce back on Friday when it travels to Morgantown to face Frankfort.
