HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Bridgeport used a balanced offensive attack and a late surge to pull away for a 13-5 victory over Herbert Hoover on Saturday at Marshall's Jack Cook Field.
Luke Rohrig led the way at the plate, collecting three hits in four at-bats. He recorded singles in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to pace the Indians' nine-hit performance.
Herbert Hoover struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a walk by Armstrong that brought in a run for an early 1-0 lead.
The game turned decisively in the sixth inning when Bridgeport erupted for five runs despite managing just two hits. The Indians capitalized on patience at the plate, drawing multiple walks, while Kasen Baun was hit by a pitch to drive in a run. Julian added a two-run single in the inning to extend the lead.
Straley earned the win in relief for Bridgeport, allowing four runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings while striking out two. Dom Fazalare started on the mound, giving up just one unearned run over 3 2/3 innings. White took the loss for Herbert Hoover after allowing five runs over four innings.
Offensively, Baun and Thomas each drove in three runs for Bridgeport, while McNally added two hits. Dunn contributed by drawing two walks as part of a disciplined approach that saw the Indians tally eight walks in the game.
Bridgeport returns to action Monday with a road trip to Lewis County.
