Indians Advance With Walk Off

Baseball rallied in their final at-bat Tuesday, defeating East Fairmont High School 3-2 in walk-off fashion at Jack Cook Field in Huntington at the state baseball tournament.

With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Guy Avolio delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly, bringing home the deciding run and lifting the Indians to the dramatic victory.

The contest featured a strong pitching duel throughout, with Bridgeport pitchers limiting East Fairmont to just two hits while striking out six batters.

East Fairmont struck first in the opening inning with a double to drive in a run and give the Bees an early 1-0 advantage.

Bridgeport answered in the fourth inning as Anthony Julian lined a single down the right-field line to score the tying run.

East Fairmont regained the lead in the top of the sixth when the Bees produced an RBI groundout to make it 2-1.

The Indians saved their best for last in the seventh. Jax McNally tied the game with an RBI groundout before Avolio followed with the game-winning sacrifice fly.

Owen Sondericker went the distance on the mound for Bridgeport, earning the win after allowing just two hits and two runs, only one earned, over seven innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked one.

Bridgeport was led offensively by Luke Rohrig and Cole Arnett, who each collected two hits. Julian, Avolio, and McNally each drove in a run for the Indians, who also turned a double play defensively.

The Indians will face either Ripley or Spring Valley in the semifinals on Friday at 10am.
