BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport continued its strong stretch of play Wednesday, earning a 4-1 victory over University behind timely hitting and solid pitching.
The Indians struck first in the second inning when Luke Rohrig delivered an RBI single to give Bridgeport an early lead.
Bridgeport added to its advantage in the third inning. Guy Avolio lined an RBI single down the right field line, and Cole Arnett followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.
Dom Fazalare earned the win on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on four hits over five innings while striking out four and walking three. Talan Thomas came on in relief to secure the save and preserve the victory.
Bridgeport totaled nine hits in the game, with Owen Sondericker and Avolio each collecting two. Avolio also drove in two runs in a perfect 2-for-2 performance.
The Indians were aggressive on the basepaths, stealing six bases, including two by Rohrig.
Bridgeport will look to keep the momentum going Thursday when it travels to Fairmont Senior.
