BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — In a game filled with offense and momentum swings, Bridgeport outlasted Elkins 16-9 on Monday behind a huge performance from Luke Rohrig.
Rohrig was nearly unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, double, and two singles to lead the Indians' 21-hit attack.
Bridgeport jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in both the second and third innings to build a 7-3 lead. Jackson McNally and Rohrig each delivered key RBI singles during the early surge.
Elkins answered in the fourth inning, erupting for six runs on five hits to take a 9-7 lead.
Bridgeport quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at 9-9 on an RBI single by Guy Avolio.
The Indians regained control in the fifth inning when Kasen Baun, Brooks Vass, and Cole Arnett each drove in runs to make it 12-9. Bridgeport then added four more runs in the sixth, highlighted by Rohrig's solo home run and a two-run single from Baun.
Vass earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Mason Bowen started the game, and Brady Elliott also provided relief as Bridgeport pieced together the pitching effort.
Offensively, McNally matched Rohrig with four hits, while Avolio and Baun each drove in three runs. Owen Sondericker and Arnett added multiple hits as the Indians piled up 21 hits overall.
Bridgeport also dominated on the basepaths, stealing 12 bases in the game, with several players recording multiple steals.
Bridgeport returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Morgantown.
