BRIDGEPORT WVA- In the opener, Bridgeport pulled away late for an 8-3 victory over Cabell Midland Varsity Knights. Cabell Midland struck first in the third inning on an RBI single, but Bridgeport answered quickly when Luke Rohrig launched a solo home run to left to even the score at 1-1.
The Knights regained the lead in the fifth after a solo homer and an RBI single to make it 3-1. Bridgeport responded in the bottom half of the inning, taking control for good. Owen Sondericker delivered a two-run single to tie the game, and Brooks Vass added an RBI groundout to give the Indians a 4-3 edge.
Bridgeport added insurance from there, finishing with 10 hits and taking advantage of six walks and aggressive base running, swiping four bases. Cole Arnett led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Kasen Baun drove in two runs. Sondericker and Rohrig each had multiple hits.
Sondericker earned the win on the mound, striking out 10 over five innings while allowing three runs. Aiden Dunn provided relief, tossing a scoreless inning.Â

In the second game of the day, Bridgeport rode a dominant pitching performance from Guy Avolio to a 7-0 shutout win over Fort Hill Varsity Sentinels.
Avolio was in command throughout, striking out 11 while allowing just six hits over six scoreless innings. Bridgeport gave him early support, getting on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by Sondericker.
The Indians continued to build their lead behind a balanced offensive effort. Rohrig drove in three runs to pace the lineup, while he, Jackson McNally, and Arnett each recorded two hits.
With the sweep, Bridgeport went 3Â and 1 in the weekend McDonalds Classic. The Indians will host Elkins on Monday.
