Fairmont State, have a Day.

Bridgeport senior
Maria Day signed her letter-of-intent on Wednesday to continue her successful soccer career at Fairmont State University in the fall, joining a Fighting Falcons program that won the Mountain East Conference tournament last year and made the NCAA second round.
Â
"To start, I love the proximity," Day said of her choice. "It's really close to home, obviously, and the athletic and academic programs are both really great. It was a great opportunity that opened up for me."
Â
This goal motivated her in high school.
Â
"It's always been in the forefront of my mind when it comes to every training and every workout. I feel like I always had to put my best foot forward because I realized this is something I do want to achieve," Day said.
Â
Day will get to play for a new coach, Alex Zaroyan, who comes with an impressive pedigree after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Syracuse; before that, he was at George Washington and UT-Martin.
Â
"I'm super excited," Day said of the hire. "I had some experience under the previous coaches, but I feel like it's a new opportunity to have a new face there. I trust the athletic department's judgment to have him there. I've heard good things already."
Â
She follows in the footsteps of BHS alums Elisa Dinaldo and Gracie Courtney, who were part of last year's team, and will join a roster filled with local standouts like Philip Barbour's Arrington and Braylyn Sparks and Robert C. Byrd's  Olivia Lowther.
Â
"I've had the opportunity to train with them a couple of times and they're just great girls to be around," Day said. "I know that training is going to be a great competition. There's a lot of talent on this team."
Â
Playing club soccer helped Day realize college soccer was a possibility.
