Bridgeport's girls soccer team advanced to the Class AAA state tournament thanks to a 3-0 win against Robert C. Byrd at Wayne Jamison Field on Wednesday.
Â
The Indians will play for a state championship next Thursday at the Paul Cline Memorial Complex in Beckley.Â
Â
Lilly Day opened the scoring for the Indians in the 19th minute of play. Her goal came on a corner kick served by Alli Wilson. The goal kept BHS in front 1-0 as intermission arrived.
Â
Bridgeport upped its advantage to 2-0 when
Lindsey Callahan scored in the 45th minute on an assist by Marie Day. Callahan, however, would not be finished.
Â
Callahan would deliver the dagger in the 71st minute as she scored her second goal into the lower left corner of the net. It was one of 15 shots on goal by the Tribe.
Â
The Indians had more than enough offense thanks to a stingy defense. The Bridgeport back line of
Eliza Perine,
Ellie McCall,
Carley Lattea, and Wilson held the Eagles to no shots on goal.
Â
With the victory the Indians record now stands at 11-8-2 on the season.Â
