A trio of Bridgeport High School baseball players have earned first-team honors on the Class AAA All-State Baseball Team announced today by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Jacob Stavarkis is a first-team pitcher,
Michael Romano is the first-team catcher and
Carson Currey is a first-team infielder.
Stavrakis, who was also recently named the Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year, went 7-2 with one save, an ERA of 1.66 and 38 strikeouts in 55 innings. He also hit .333 and led the team in homers with two and RBIs with 38.

Romano hit .319, scored 33 runs and stole a team-best 24 bases while having another stellar season on defense behind the plate.
Currey, who had the top batting average for BHS at .395, hit 13 doubles, one triple, one home run and drove in 24.

The Indians, who finished the season at 26-10, are also represented on the second team by utility player
Luke Rohrig. He batted .376 with 1 homer, 18 RBIs and scored 30 runs.

Three more BHS players earned honorable mention status in
Kasen Baun,
Owen Sondericker and
Guy Avolio.

Baun hit .301 with one home run and 19 RBIs. Sondericker hit .302 with one homer and 27 RBIs. Â Avolio went 4-2 on the mound with a save and struck out 41 batters. He also hit one home run and drove in seven.
