Zuliani Wins Another State Title

Bridgeport's Carter Zuliani capped his unforgettable senior season with another state championship.
 
Zuliani captured the Class AAA state title in the discus on Day 2 of the state track and field meet at Laidley Field in Charleston, finishing with a winning throw of 164-09.
 
Zuliani was a first-team all-stater in football and helped the Indians win the state title. He was a second-team all-stater and helped the boys basketball team win the state title. He was also part of the state champion boys swim team where he was also part of the first-place and record-setting 200 free relay team.
 
Zuliani's win in the discus Saturday marked the second field event state champion for the BHS boys as Noah Kintz won the pole vault on Friday.
 
Also on Saturday, Wes Brown Jr. finished ninth in the discus with a throw of 140-03.
 
The boys 4x100 team of Timmy Jeffress, Will George, Donte Pierre and Alex Moses placed fifth with a time of 43.67.
 
Jeffress finished sixth in the long jump at 19-10.75.
 
Closing out the day was an eighth-place finish for the BHS 4x400 team of Jeffress, Moses, Quentin Collier and Kieran Moore. They finished with a time of 3:30.73.
 
For the BHS girls, Gianna Cox placed in all three of her events. The standout sprinter finished third in the 400 with a time of 58.40, fifth in the 100 at 12.48 and fourth in the 200 at 25.37.
 
Cox was also part of the fourth-place 4x400 team as she was joined by Emma Kniceley-See, Haydn Henderson and LeeAnn Gaskins in running a 4:05.60.
 
Myleigh Smell ran a sixth-place time of 16.06 in the 100 hurdles and finished 13th in the 300 hurdles at 49.11.
 
Lyza Halterman came in third in girls shot put with a throw of 36-04.25. Becky Pepper-Jackson was eighth in the shot put at 34-02.25 and third in the discus at 121-11.
 
The girls 4x200 team of Eliza Perine, Henderson, Kniceley-See and Gaskins was seventh with a time of 1:47.78 and the 4x100 team of Gaskins, Kniceley-See, Henderson and Violet Vash was seventh with a time of 51.33.
