Track Has Good Showing At Mountaineer

The Bridgeport High School boys track and field team placed fifth out of 15 schools at last week's Mountaineer Showcase event in Morgantown.
 
Leading the was a first-place finish in the shuttles as the team of Aiden Gorby, Gabe Martin, Carter Zuliani and Sawyer Culicerto crossed the finish line with a time of 1:02.20.
 
The Indians had runner-up finishes in another relay as well as a pair of field events.
 
The 4x200 team of Alex Moses, Antonio Robinson, Will George and Donte Pierre placed second with a time of 1:33.71.
 
Zuliani took second place in the discus with a throw of 147-08 and Noah Kintz cleared 10-06 to take second in the pole vault.
 
Troy Zorick posted his best two-mile time of the season which was good for third place overall at 9:46.61.
 
Donovan Williams finished third in the high jump after clearing 5-08.
 
Other points for the BHS boys came from Timmy Jeffress (fourth in the long jump at 19-01 and seventh in the 100 at 11.72), the 4x800 team of Ethan Smell, Quentin Collier, Zorick and William Northey (fifth at 8:46.34), George (seventh in the 200 at 23.74), the 4x100 team of Moses, Dominick Robinson, Kintz and Pierre (seventh at 45.70), Gorby (seventh in the long jump at 18-10), Zuliani (seventh in the shot put at 41-09), the 4x400 team of Kieran Moore, Moses, Gabe Martin and Antonio Robinson (eighth with a time of 3:46.67) and Parker Muncy (eighth in the pole vault at 8-06).
 
University won the boys team title and Parkersburg was the runner-up.
 
The BHS girls finished third out of 16 teams. University took first place and Greenbrier East was the runner-up.
 
The Indians were especially strong in the throws, going 1-2 in the discus and 1-2-3 in the shot put.
Becky Pepper-Jackson won the discus with a throw of 104-01 and the shot put with a throw of 34-07. Lyza Halterman was the runner-up in both with a throw of 100-01 in the discus and 33-02.25 in the shot. Isabella McCullough was third in the shot put with a throw of 31-09.
 
Giana Cox was the runner-up in the 100 with a time of 12.59 and was third in the 200 at 26.22 as well as third in the 400 at 1:01.23.
 
The team of LeeAnn Gaskins, Violet Vash, Emma Kniceley-See and Haydn Henderson finished second in the 4x100 with a time of 52.44.
 
Henderson added a third-place finish in the long jump at 16-06.75.
