Bridgeport punched its ticket to next week's Class AAA state volleyball tournament in an exciting Region II championship match at the Bridgeport High School gymnasium this evening.
Â
The top-seeded Indians needed five sets to get past the region's fifth seed and get back to the state tournament. The Tribe are the defending state champions.
Â
BHS needed to win three of the last four sets to get past the Eagles. The Indians fell by a 25-22 score in the opening set to put themselves in the corner. However, the Tribe came storming back.
Â
Bridgeport would win the next two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-21. The Eagles then took the fourth set 26-24 to force the decisive set. The home team would prevail to keep hopes of a repeat championship alive.
Â
The state tournament will be held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center from November 11-13. BHS's opponent and date and time will be announced by the WVSSAC later.
