The Bridgeport junior varsity team had to overcome a two touchdown deficit and used a late goal line stand to hold off Parkersburg South Monday night 41-34 at the Erickson Sports Complex.
South used a blend of runs and short passes to build a 14-0 lead before the Indians offense came to life. Freshman Luke Rohrig raced 60 yards for a touchdown to get Bridgeport on the board with just 3 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
The Patriots would respond to take a 22-8 lead on the next possession but the Tribe responded just two plays later on a 59 yard Rohrig run.
The Indians would take their first lead of the night on the opening drive of the third quarter when freshman Gabe Martin ran it in from ten yards out.
Bridgeport would build the lead to seven following a short Gavin Williams touchdown run.
South would score again but miss on the 2 point conversion attempt to cut the lead to one point. Rohrig would score again from five yards out but the Indians two point attempt came up short.
Trailing by seven with less than three minutes left, South would drive to the Indians 4 yard line before the Indians forced an incompletion on fourth and goal to seal the win.
The freshman trio of Williams, Rohrig, and Martin led the Indians to 341 yards rushing on the night.
Bridgeport JV's returns to action on Monday October 16th at Preston.
