The junior varsity faced a stiff test at Greeway Stadium in Cumberland, Maryland, on Monday night but came away with a 26-12 win in the second game of the season. Fort Hill has won three straight Class A state championships, and the younger Sentinels proved to be a tough opponent.
After forcing a four-and-out, Fort Hill scored first with 5:20 on the clock but missed the extra point to lead 6-0. The Indians would use a 39-yard pass completion from
Eli Martin to
Max Conley to set up a four-yard touchdown run from
Sawyer Culicerto to tie the score.
Roman Lopez ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-6 Bridgeport lead.
The Indians' defense stiffened, and the offense found the end zone again just before halftime on an 11-yard run from Culicerto.
Bridgeport would build the lead out to 20-6 on a Martin to Culicerto pass and run of 36 yards with 5:28 to play in the third quarter. Fort Hill would cut into the lead later in the quarter, but the Indians would score an insurance touchdown on a 4-yard
Zach Hickman run with 5:20 remaining in the game.
The defense got pressure on the Fort Hill quarterback late in the game to seal the win with sacks registered by
Dom Piot and Colton Leary.
Isaiah Clayton and
Brilyn Ford-Parker also shared a sack in the first half.
The JV (2-0) is scheduled to face Philip-Barbour on Monday at 6pm at Wayne Jamison Field
