JV's Win In Shortened Game With RCB

The Bridgeport junior varsity football team needed just 14 offensive plays to put 54 points on the scoreboard Monday night.

The Indians raced past Robert C. Byrd, 54-0, in a game that was called at halftime because of injuries to the Eagles.

Bridgeport wasted no time getting on the scoreboard.

On the first play from scrimmage, Zach Hickman broke free for a 91-yard touchdown run to give the Indians an early 7-0 lead.

After the Bridgeport defense forced a three-and-out, Trey Spatafore connected with Troy Jackson on a 27-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.

The Indians continued to dominate on both sides of the football.

On RCB's next possession, Maverick Flint recorded a sack of the Eagles quarterback, forcing another punt. Jackson provided the next big play, taking the punt 44 yards for a touchdown to push the Bridgeport lead to 20-0.

Spatafore then added two rushing touchdowns, scoring on runs of 11 and 27 yards as the Indians continued to pile up points.

Freshman Isaac Delaney capped another Bridgeport drive with a six-yard touchdown run, making it 40-0 with 7:41 remaining in the second quarter.

The Indians' defense continued to create opportunities. Hunter Heater recorded a strip sack on the next RCB possession, and Delaney scooped up the loose football and raced into the end zone for his second touchdown of the night.

Graham DeLeurere closed out the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds remaining before halftime.

Jackson Nicewarner converted six of eight extra-point attempts for Bridgeport.

With the victory, the Indians improve to 3-0 on the season.

Bridgeport will return to action October 12 when it travels to Morgantown for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Mohigans.
