The Bridgeport junior varsity football team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion Monday night, rolling to a 41-14 road victory over Buckhannon-Upshur.
The Indians wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, marching 70 yards in 10 plays on the opening possession. Trey Spatafore capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run, while Jackson Nicewarner added the extra point. Nicewarner finished the night 5-for-6 on PAT attempts.
Bridgeport continued to build its lead after Troy Jackson intercepted a Buckhannon-Upshur pass and returned it 34 yards for a defensive touchdown.
The Indians' defense and opportunistic playmaking continued to set the tone. Spatafore recovered a Buc fumble, and on the very next play Jackson broke free for an eight-yard touchdown run.
Zach Hickman led Bridgeport's rushing attack with 129 yards and added a 15-yard touchdown run. Jackson capped the Indians' first-half scoring with a 45-yard touchdown run.
Bridgeport finished the night with an impressive 359 yards rushing, overpowering the Bucs on the ground throughout the contest.
The victory also extended an impressive streak for the Indians, whose junior varsity program has remained unbeaten dating back to the 2019 season.
