BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport delivered a dominant performance Friday night at Wayne Jamison Field, sweeping both the boys and girls team championships at the annual Harry Green Invitational.
The Indians edged a strong Keyser squad for the boys title, finishing with 166 points to Keyser's 162.5. Hurricane placed third with 112 points. On the girls side, Bridgeport pulled away from the field with 171.5 points, comfortably ahead of Hurricane's 115.
The host school showcased its depth and star power throughout the evening, capturing numerous individual and relay victories.
For the boys, Bridgeport swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash. William George claimed first in 11.39 seconds, narrowly edging teammate Gavin Williams by just one-hundredth of a second, while JT Ritter finished third.
Ritter later captured the 200-meter dash title in 23.72 seconds, continuing an outstanding meet for the freshman standout.
Bridgeport also dominated the hurdles. Kieran Moore won the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-best 41.44 seconds, with teammate Sawyer Culicerto finishing second. Culicerto later teamed with Braeden Matthis, Aiden Gorby, and Graham Vincent to win the 4x110 shuttle hurdles relay.
The Indians' sprint relay team of Gavin Williams, JT Ritter, Carson Bastin, and William George raced to victory in the 4x100 relay.
In the field events, Graham Vincent and Gavin Williams shared top honors in the high jump, each clearing 5 feet, 10 inches.
Bridgeport's girls were equally impressive. Emma Kniceley-See sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.13 seconds, while Haydn Henderson captured the 200-meter title in 27.20 seconds.
Henderson also won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 3.75 inches, adding valuable points to the Lady Indians' championship total.
Katie Backus excelled in multiple events, winning the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 8 inches and helping Bridgeport's shuttle hurdles relay team to another first-place finish. Backus joined Carley Lattea, Kennedy Wolfe, and Scarlett Edgell on the victorious 4x102.5 relay squad.
