Air, and water.
 
Two things Jacob Keener excels in.
 
The Bridgeport senior will get to pursue both in college, signing his letter-of-intent on Monday to continue his swimming career at Fairmont State University, where he will pursue a major in aviation.
 
"I chose it because they have the program I wanted to go into," Keener said. "They have a very good aviation program. It just makes sense that I can experience that and go to the next level of swimming and enjoy it."
 
It's a full-circle moment for Keener: "I learned how to swim at that pool at Fairmont State, so I'm really looking forward to it."
 
Keener will likely swim the distance events.
 
"They have a lot of really good sprinters already and their distance group needs more people," Keener said. "That's where I was at in high school and club swim so I'll probably stick with that."
 
Keener will team up with swimmers from former rivals like Robert C. Byrd, Morgantown and Philip Barbour.
 
"I think it's really fun because swimming is a smaller sport in West Virginia, so a lot of the swimmers in the state, we all know each other," Keener said. "So to finally be on the same team as them, hang out with them and grow with them is really exciting for me."
 
As for the major: "It excited me, the thought of being able to fly and travel and get to have that experience of so many parts of the world as my job," Keener said. "I'm very grateful to be able to have that opportunity."
 
It was something that planted itself in Keener's mind last year.
 
"I started thinking about it and I narrowed it down because I didn't want to sit at a desk. I knew I wanted to be hands-on. Aviation checked all those boxes for me," Keener said.
 
He'll treasure his time at Bridgeport, where he won a team state championship as a junior, placing fourth in the 500 yard freestyle.
