A pair of Indians standouts have been selected to play in an all-star game this summer in South Charleston. Harrison Hall, who started this season at blocking back, and Noah West, one of the Indians' key offensive and defensive linemen, will play for the North Bears.
The annual North-South All-Star Football Classic is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, at South Charleston High School, with kickoff set for noon. The game, a staple of the state's high school football tradition, will once again highlight standout players from across West Virginia.
Organized by the West Virginia Schools Coaches Association, the event will be broadcast live on WCHS-TV's sister station, The Nest, and streamed on WCHS-TV's YouTube and Facebook channels.
Head coaches for this year's contest include Nick Mayle, who will lead the North squad, and Joey Fields, who will guide the South team. Both coaches have announced their rosters ahead of the summer showcase.
This year's game also marks a milestone, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the event's revival. The modern version of the North-South Classic was first played in July 1976 at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field, then known simply as Laidley Field, under the direction of the former West Virginia Coaches Association and the Charleston Lions Club.
Each team is permitted a 40-player roster. Currently, the North squad features 33 players representing 20 different high schools, while the South has reached the maximum with athletes from 26 schools statewide.
In preparation for the game, players will report to training camp on Sunday, June 14, at West Virginia State University. The week-long camp will include twice-daily practices leading up to the contest at South Charleston's Black Eagles Stadium.
Beyond the field, players will take part in a variety of team-building activities throughout the week, including trips to the movies, swimming outings, bowling, and attending a Charleston Dirty Birds game.
The week will conclude with the annual North-South All-Star Football Classic Hall of Fame dinner, held the night before kickoff at Little Creek Park Country Club in South Charleston, honoring the tradition and legacy of the event.
