HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Bridgeport dropped a 6-5 decision to Cabell Midland on Thursday at Marshall Thundering Herd Baseball Field, with the Knights delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The game was tied at 5-5 entering the final frame before Cabell Midland's Brunty lined a base hit to bring home the winning run, sealing the victory in dramatic fashion.
Bridgeport's offense was led by Owen Sondericker, who turned in a strong performance at the plate with three hits in four at-bats. He tripled in the sixth inning and added singles in the fourth and eighth innings to pace the Indians.
Cabell Midland struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, using a pair of singles to take an early lead, highlighted by an RBI base hit from Hunt.
Bridgeport battled back and evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the sixth when Straley delivered a clutch single down the left field line.
The Indians regained the advantage in the eighth inning. Dom Fazalare drove in a run with a single, and McNally added another by stealing home to give Bridgeport a 5-3 lead.
However, Cabell Midland responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game with the help of a walk and a Bridgeport error to set the stage for the ninth-inning finish.
Bridgeport starter Brandon Butcher delivered a solid outing, working 7 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out nine and walking one.
