State Champion Knights

No one in West Virginia could joust better than Bridgeport's Knights.

John Knight's fourth year on the podium of the state wrestling tournament ended with him standing on the top.

The senior capped a 33-3 season with a 11-2 win by major decision over Wheeling Park's Isaac Sands in the 165-pound weight class Division I championship bout at Marshall Health Network Arena in Huntington on Saturday night.

Then, he got to watch as brother Eli, a junior, needed a mere 54 seconds to pin Martinsburg's Terrell Cofield and finish off a perfect 36-0 season at 215 pounds.

Two Bridgeport wrestlers finished second.

Tyler Mason (30-7) saw his freshman run in the 138-pound bracket end with a pin at the hands of Parkersburg's Stephen Myers in 2:56.

Kaleb Ice (30-8) also lost by pin at 150 pounds to former Fairmont Senior and current University wrestler Jason Walker in 5:51.

Earlier in the day, Maddox Pudder (22-11) finished sixth at 157 pounds, losing a 13-3 major decision to Huntington's Grady Stotts and via pin in 3:32 against Cabell Midland's Jordan Murrell.

Bridgeport placed sixth as a team with 126.5 points, trailing only University (246), Parkersburg (235), Cabell Midland (168.5), Huntington (146.5) and Parkersburg South (134.5), all AAAA schools in every other sport.
