Class AAA No. 3 Bridgeport (5-0) extended one of the state's most impressive records with Friday's 77-6 victory against Robert C. Byrd (2-3).
Â
With the win the Indians extended their streak of non-losing seasons to 58 seasons. The Class AAA defending state champions also extended their overall win streak to 19 games.
Â
The 77 points scored by the Indians ties the record for most in a single game, previously set in 2024 against Buckhannon-Upshur.
Â
The 77 points are also the most allowed in RCB history. Bridgeport now leads the all-time series against RCB 30-5.
Â
"I'm happy with the kids' effort, I thought they played hard," BHS coach Tyler Phares said. "There's things we can get better at for sure.
Â
"The defense was great. Coach (Casey) Stewart has done a fantastic job getting those guys up to par and get a little better each week."
Â
The Indians started fast and never looked back as
Gavin Williams returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown. He booted the PAT kick to make it 7-0.
Â
Williams nearly blocked a punt after the BHS defense forced a three-and-out for the Eagles' offense.
Graham Vincent fielded the punt and returned it 18 yards.
Aiden Gorby had a big 22-yard run on third down before
Eli Knight took it the final 6 yards for the touchdown.
Â
Knight later added a 3-yard touchdown run.
Kasen Baun had first-half touchdown runs of 23 and 6 yards, respectively.
Â
Bridgeport's other two first-half touchdowns were of the big-play variety and
Graham Vincent had a hand in both.
Â
After the BHS defense forced another three-and-out, Vincent threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to
Sean Veltri.
