The 2025 season for the Bridgeport High School golf team begins today in the WV Army National Guard WVGA Invite a Callaway Series event at Glade Springs in Daniels.
 
As has been the case in his first two years as head coach, Chris Kerr has a roster that consists of a mix of talented returnees and promising newcomers which creates a situation where inner-squad competition will be constant.
 
"It's a great problem to have," Kerr said. "I think our top two are set but there is going to be back and forth with them all year with Alex (Randolph) and Audrey (Kerr). Garrett Steele shot a 36 to qualify for this first match so he's right there too.
 
"The four spot and then number five and six for matches where we can take six, it's going to be a revolving door."
 
Audrey Kerr is entering her junior season with the Indians and has already established herself as one of the state's premier golfers. A year ago she won the WVSSAC High School Girls Golf Invitational and was consistently near the top of the leaderboard for the Indians in every match.
 
After another successful summer on the youth touring circuit, she is poised for another standout high school season.
 
"It's definitely weird to think that I'm a junior out here," she said. "I try to be a leader, try to encourage everybody but I think it also creates more pressure for me to step up.
 
"I absolutely think I'm a better golfer than this time last year. I took second place in the Junior Callaway Final and that was an awesome experience at the Snead (course named after Sam Snead at The Greenbrier). I got to play in the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) here (at the Bridgeport Country Club) and I had two really good starting rounds at 76 and 76. I played in a lot of tournaments, got first place in some of those Callaways. I'd say the AJGA was definitely the biggest highlight."
