Bridgeport High School soccer standout
Jackson Cogar finalized his plans to compete at the next level on Friday as he signed his National Letter-of-Intent with Davis & Elkins College.
Â
The signing ceremony took place in front of a crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches at BHS.
Â
"I really loved the campus, it's a beautiful campus," Cogar said. "I love Elkins, it's a beautiful part of West Virginia. One of the biggest influences, the one who recruited me (D&E assistant coach) Joe Brooks, he's the coach of my FCA travel team and I was able to build that connection early. I also received the Emerging Leaders Scholarship so that made it affordable to go there.
Â
"Most importantly, I wanted to be close to home and be in West Virginia. I wanted to go to school in West Virginia, that was really important to me."
Â
Cogar emerged as one of the state's elite scorers as a senior. He finished with 30 goals to go along with 18 assists en route to being selected as the Big 10 Conference Player of the Year.
Â
Cogar also earned Class AAA second-team all-state honors.
