Big guy, big career, big honor for the late Eddie Goff.

The 1964 BHS graduate is part of the first class of the Harry Green Bridgeport High Athletics Hall of Fame.

A two-time first-team all-state selection in 1962 and 1963, Goff "probably weighed about 235...and could have been anywhere between 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-5," Buddy Randolph remembered in a story that ran on Connect-Bridgeport after Goff's death in December 2023.

"He was the biggest person I had ever seen up close," Phil Nicewarner remembered in the same story. "It was like seeing Andre the Giant. He was just so big."

Goff played as a freshman, one of the few players to do so even then, and was part of the undefeated 1962 team, which did not get to play for a state championship in an era where only two teams in each class made the playoffs.

Those two all-state honors were Bridgeport's first double selection for a lineman, a feat not matched until Andy Grogg in 1989 and 1990.

Goff also played college football at then-Fairmont State College according to his obituary, but Randolph said there was interest from Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia.
