With the exception of
Alex Randolph's one over 72 on the opening day of the two-day state golf tournament, the results were as dismal as the rain clouds that first round. Bridgeport's golf team turned those Monday rain clouds into bright sunshine with a steady charge throughout the day to win the state golf championship.
Â
Sophomore Randolph was the class of the field both days. His one-over-72 on day 1 led the field, only to be outdone by his one-under-70 today for an even par 142 for the tournament that earned him medalist honors in AAA.
Â
An equally great story was the play of
Patrick Aucremanne today. He was not selected to be in the lineup for the regional championship or one of the four picked to play the first day of the state tournament. Coach Kerr added him to the four-person lineup today, and he more than proved the confidence the coach had in him was well founded by shooting a clutch 78 from the number four position, the second-best score of all Bridgeport golfers on the day.
Â
Bridgeport's scores the first day were Randolph at 72,
Audrey Kerr at 86,
Luke Rohrig at 87, and
Jackson Nicewarner at 102. Those results had Bridgeport in fourth with a 245, nine shots behind Shady Spring's 236, eight shots behind John Marshall, and four shots behind Winfield. That deficit was not insurmountable, but they would need three of their golfers to go low on day two to make up the difference.
Â
Today they got exactly what they needed from Tuesday's 2
nd round: Randolph continued his hot play with his one under 70, Aucremanne had the 78, and
Audrey Kerr rebounded from her 86 Monday to shoot an 80 today for a team total for the day of 228, seventeen strokes better than yesterday. Their two-day of 473 was 9 better than Shady Spring, Winfield's 482.
