Bridgeport High School soccer standout
Elisa Dinaldo finalized her plans to continue her career at the next level, signing her letter of intent with Fairmont State University on Tuesday.
Â
The signing ceremony took place at BHS in front of a crowd of family, friends and teammates.
Â
"I know a lot of the girls that play there," Dinaldo said. "Gracie Courtney, who played here at Bridgeport, she plays there.
"I really like their program and how they actually play soccer. It's close to home which is good because I'm close to my family."
Â
Dinaldo has played at multiple spots on the field for the Indians and excelled at them all. She's an elite defender and also had seven career goals and 15 assists in four seasons with the Indians.
Â
That versatility is something that Dinaldo thinks will make the transition to the collegiate level easier.
Â
"Being able to play different positions, you can go in anywhere at any time," she said. "At first (Fairmont State) were saying midfielder but I think it may end up being more of an outside back on defense."
Â
Dinaldo doesn't care where she plays, she's just excited to know that her soccer career is continuing.
Â
"I started playing in third grade, probably since middle school I've wanted to play in college," she said. "It's really nice to know I'm going somewhere. Last year as a junior it was stressful with the recruiting and e-mailing coaches. It's nice to have one school I know I'm going to."
Â
Dinaldo said she plans on majoring in exercise science while at Fairmont State with a minor in graphic design.
