Bridgeport High School standout distance runner
Sara Rexroad finalized her plans to continue her career at the next level, signing her National Letter of Intent with Fairmont State University on Wednesday.
Â
The signing ceremony took place at BHS in front of a crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches.
Â
"I've always loved running and I really got a great opportunity to run at Fairmont," Rexroad said. "And it's close to home. That was definitely a huge factor."
Â
Rexroad has excelled in both cross country and track and field with the Indians. At Fairmont State she will focus on cross country which she said she prefers slightly over the distance events on the track if she was forced to choose.
Â
Her work ethic may be at the top of her list of attributes and that is something BHS coach Nathaniel "Looch" Lutyens has raved about throughout Rexroad's prep career.
Â
"She's an incredibly hard worker," he said. "You look at her times throughout her career and she was constantly showing improvement which is something that isn't always the case. I think she will definitely be an asset to Fairmont. She's going to continue to work hard and do what's asked of her. I think she is just going to continue to get better."
